Whether its for pack-shots or TV commercials, the Clients' attention to detail is often acute,
yet can start with a loose brief, allowing more creative input than with architectural and product
modelmaking. This is the best area in which to develop an 'all round' ability in modelmaking as
it covers the broadest range of subject matter, anything from an oversize cereal biscuit to a
quartz crystal, from fake tomatoes to fake ice cream, from a medieval castle to a modern satellite.
 | Flying Car | Made for Herts Motor Insurance company, who tracked me down after reading some of my articles in the hobby mag 'Science Fiction and Fantasy Models'. Only requirement in the brief was that it should have the American muscle car look, apart from that, I could pretty much do what I wanted. Built around a 'Barbie' car cockpit (to save time) the main body was vac-formed styrene over carved Eurathane foam patterns. About two foot long. |
 | Krisper | Made for John Wright Models of Bristol for TV cereal advert. Roughly 1/12 th scale. Fabricated from sheet ABS. Real rivets glued in. Animatable levers. |
 | Space Marine | These full size suits were to be worn by actors and were made for P.P.L in Wandsworth. Very much a team effort, but with Rob Malos and myself sacrificing a Christmas to finish the job. Vac formed 4mm thick ABS with 'Candy Apple' spray paint finish. |
 | USS Teabag | Made for Vision UK..... To boldly go where no tea-bag has gone before! Made using real teabag paper, with all those little perforations.... by a company determined to show that their teabag paper can be formed into any shape at all.... round, pyramid... whatever! |
 | Launchpad | Approx 1/72 scale rocket for Toshiba TV commercial. 6' tall made from scratch as no kits available at that size. Mostly ABS tubing, 3 weeks, Rocket only (from a few photos). |
 | River raft | 'Action-man' scale model for Alton Towers' TV commercial. Upper section perspex with M.D.F seats, lower section car tyre inner tube. Photographic reference only, 2 weeks. Solo effort. (pic shows blowing dust off model before the cameras turn-over) |
 | Radar | Twelfth scale dish for BP commercial. Perspex ribs with aluminium mesh in between. Rotation provided by household power drill mounted in base, speed controlled by Variac. 2 weeks. |
 | Satellite | AT&T commercial. Unknown scale, sketchy reference only, plenty of freedom to detail this mostly plastic satellite. About 7 days. |
Please be patient when selecting a thumbnail as pictures may take a few seconds to download as they may be large and of high definition.
